It'S Okay To Take A Break
Many of my clients are at a crossroads in their career. They feel guilty if they quit their jobs and let their employer down. It feels like you are judged for your decisions.
My career was of paramount importance in my life. I thought of my career as a child who needs constant attention and love. I wondered if I wanted to keep doing this. My mom was a victim of this, withering away at a job that paid the bills and sucked her health.
Tony Robbins said that success without fulfillment is the ultimate failure. Wealth and fame don’t always win over happiness. Some famous people who were successful on the outside end up in rehab for drug or alcohol abuse or taking their own lives.

It does not mean failure if you quit your job or switch careers midway through your life. Some of us will explore. I am descended from Vikings and immigrants. Listen if you’re uninspired or restless in your career. It might be time for a change.
It’s not the goal to drift or job-hop, but a transition period may be required. I went from time off to travel and thought to build an online solopreneur business.
If you want to be happy, stop planning and follow your intuition. Bill Burnett’s Designing Your Life helped him through his transition time. He did some exercises after reading the book.
It’s fine to take a break at any age. Sometimes it’s helpful to talk to someone who specializes in helping others get unstuck, like a life coach, career coach, or therapist. Don’t worry about other people’s opinions.
